This uniquely designed thresher, known as a mechanical flail (Flegel-Drescher), was developed to reduce straw damage caused by conventional threshing machines. While standard threshers often broke and frayed the straw, manual flail-threshing, which preserved the straw better, was extremely labour-intensive, requiring many workers. This mechanical version needed only two operators to handle the sheaves, doing the work of up to eight people with hand flails. The manufacturer was based in Velká Štáhle (Bruntál District). Eduard Löhnert served as the village mayor and later as a senator for the Sudeten German Party.
