Save Our Forests: Education and the Fight Against Calamity
Following the Second World War, the forests of Czechoslovakia were left to suffer the consequences of destructive over-logging, neglect and large-scale infestations of bark beetles, which exposed the vulnerability of spruce monocultures. Foresters were faced with the urgent task of restoring the devastated forests and stabilising forest management. In response to this critical situation, the Ministry of Agriculture launched a large-scale public education campaign using posters to mobilise citizens in the fight against pests, and to remind them that forests are living organisms and an integral part of a nation's wealth. The campaign emphasised shared responsibility for restoring the landscape, intending to evoke a sense of collective duty in repairing the damage left by the war.
