Ignác Lorenz, originally a sugar refinery machinist in Háj ve Slezsku (a village between Opava and Ostrava), moved to Kroměříž at the end of the 19th century, where he founded an engineering works and iron foundry. The exhibited model belongs to the S series of four-stroke, single-cylinder, horizontal engines with an open design. The versatile engine could run on various fuels: petrol, benzene, alcohol-benzene blends, alcohol-petrol blends, or kerosene. The engine featured electromagnetic ignition using a rotating magnet to fire the spark plug, and used thermosiphon cooling (natural circulation without a pump).
