Soil organic matter is responsible for many key soil processes such as provisioning of nutrients and  water to plants. In global scale soil organic matter may be an important player in global warming mitigation. In the lecture we briefly summarize this and show how soil organic matter accumulates in soil and now this cottespot with retention of water in soil.
