The factory in Brașov (Romania) was founded in 1925 as a French-Romanian manufacturer of aeroplanes. In 1946 the production plan changed and the company started to manufacture tractors. The U 650 tractor was introduced in the mid-1960s, and with time it underwent a number of modifications and modernizations. The vernacular term used for the tractor was "Romanian".
