Samuel Wittwer is a renowned art historian, conservator, and a leading international expert on porcelain and ceramics.


Since 2008, he has served as the Director of Palaces and Collections for the prestigious Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG), where he oversees the preservation and curation of historic Hohenzollern royal residences, including Sanssouci and Charlottenburg. Wittwer studied art history, ethnology, and history at the University of Basel, while simultaneously training as a conservator of ceramics and glass.

He earned his doctorate with a definitive thesis on the monumental Meissen porcelain animals created for Augustus the Strong's Japanese Palace in Dresden.

In addition to his leadership role and numerous academic publications on royal dining culture and European porcelain, he is widely recognized by the German public as a regular expert on the popular antique television show Kunst + Krempel.
