Irena Korbelářová is a leading Czech historian affiliated with the Faculty of Arts and Science of the Silesian University in Opava, where she heads the Research Centre for the Cultural History of Silesia and Central Europe.

 


She graduated from Charles University and was appointed Professor of History in 2010.

Throughout her academic and publishing career, she has specialized in the history of the Early Modern period, with a particular focus on the everyday life of urban and aristocratic societies.

In recent years, she has also devoted significant attention to the history of food and culinary culture and is regarded as one of the founders of Czech experimental retro-gastronomy.

In recognition of her contribution to the development of international cooperation, she received the Polish state distinction Bene Merito in 2019. In 2025, she was awarded the Honorary Badge of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland for Merit to Polish Culture.
