Restoration of the Magical Table in Bellaria Summer Palace with the Conservation Method / Pavel Slavko

Restoration via the conservation method (often referred to as conservation-restoration) is a specific approach to heritage preservation; its primary goal is to stabilise the object's physical condition and slow down ageing and degradation without fundamentally altering its appearance.
Unlike renovation or reconstruction, this approach strictly avoids structural or material changes, radical visual transformations, the removal of historical layers, or the complete reworking of surfaces.
In 1992, the so-called "magical table" in the Bellaria Summer Palace underwent restoration; in keeping with the Czech Republic's traditions and established heritage preservation practices, conservators applied a conservation-based approach to this Baroque mechanism.
The result is a functional period mechanism dating from 1746, possessing a high degree of authenticity (approximately 90%) regarding its construction, materials, and surface quality.
