NZM Kačina
Museum of Czech Countryside
The Museum of Czech Countryside is situated at the Chateau Kačina, which is one of the most significant empire buildings in the Czech Republic. It was built by J. Fischer for Count Jan Rudolf Chotek according to the plans by Ch. A. Schuricht. The Chateau is surrounded by a natural park designed by N. Jacquin. The Choteks lived at Kačina till 1911, when the last of them died, and the chateau was inherited by Count’s nephew, Quido Thun Hohenstein. In 1945, the chateau was confiscated. The Museum acquired it in the early fifties and built up gradually a number of exhibitions therein. Due to their size of more than 3 000 m2, the exhibitions have been dividend into three separate inspection circles. Since 2010, new modern exhibitions are opened, which inform about the history of the Czech and Moravian countryside, and about the history of food production.
The NMA Kačina can offer to its visitors a whole-day programme, but the visit to Kačina may also be combined with the inspection of some tourist interesting destinations in the neighbourhood. In particular, a significant tourist destination is the town of Kutná Hora, 5 km far from Kačina, with the town’s monuments, but also the breeding forest with white deer at Žehušice, the Romanesque St. Jacob church at Jakub, or the neo-gothic chateau at Žleby. It is also possible to visit the premises of the NMA Čáslav where historical farming machinery can be seen. The flatland surroundings of Kačina together with the connection to the Polabská biking path provides an ideal chance to visit Kačina in the framework of a biking excursion.
